Internship Weekly Journal 

WEEK 1: Monday, May 17th – Friday 21st

 WORKED:  8 hours/Day

My first week was exciting because it required me to learn more about the company for which I will be working. I’ve spent the last week going through the Ram & Sons Auto policies and procedures manual and taking copious notes. Ram & Sons Auto Inc. is a company that works in the Automotive Repair and Maintenance industry and is based in Baltimore, Maryland. This industry group includes businesses that provide repair and maintenance services for automobiles, such as cars, trucks, and vans, as well as trailers. Mechanics with particular technical skills are employed by businesses in this industrial category to diagnose and repair the mechanical and electrical systems of automobiles.

  • Using automated diagnostic tools to inspect all electrical aspects of the vehicle to find issues.
  • To keep reliable records, you must read, evaluate, and transcribe data.
  • Wide and local area network design, installation, administration, and maintenance

Week Tasks

 Maintenance of the computer and its network

We viewed the company’s overall alignment structure, computer room, and fundamental functioning of the equipment during the first three days of the internship. I used to conduct practical training in the computer room as an intern, starting with the most basic hardware knowledge, such as disassembly, installation, and so on, and gradually progressing to in-depth network aspects, such as network cable production, router/switch configuration, and network topology design, and so on.

My office colleagues also offered me certain rules and regulations about the company’s operations and computer network maintenance; so that I have a good understanding of the company’s operations and computer network maintenance. The company’s computer equipment has fewer issues in general. Graphics cards, sound cards, network cards, motherboard failures, memory, and hard disk failures are all examples of computer hardware failures.

On the fourth day of my internship, a computer used to diagnose transmission faults had a dark screen. I used a step-by-step approach to analyzing the monitor’s failure and resolving the issue. I first checked the host’s power, and then confirmed that the monitor’s power-on was normal and that the video card was in good contact with the monitor’s signal connection. Then I checked the display card installation and the motherboard plug by opening the tip of the chassis and wiped the display card installation and the motherboard plug to check whether the slot is in good contact. As a result, it was found that the slot had been cleaned for a long time due to dust accumulation, which caused poor contact. After cleaning, it is displayed normally.

Smart Cars are a new term in the automobile business that I learned about this week. A smart car is one that can connect to wireless networks and control key functions from a distance (Letaief et al., 2019). It lets software applications and cars connect with one other through an application programming interface (API) in a car. A cellular modem is installed in a smart car, allowing owners to access their car brand’s services app and unlock it from a smartphone, preheat the batteries, and so on.

Week 2: Monday, May 24 – Friday, May 28

Worked: 8 hours per day.

My second week was awesome, as I got to understand the daily actions of the company in the course of the previous week. My colleagues and supervisor got to some bit of me, and I got to understand some operations. In some instances, the company even invited me to some of the meetings and places that were in line with my expertise. The company became friendly which is very okay as it offers a conducive environment to learn and advance. I got to see how the automobile company integrates technology in their vehicle assembly, repairs, and maintenance. The supervisor also allowed me some time over the week to spend some hours in the actual field and see computerized vehicles in their trial phase.

Some of the skills required include:

In the first two days, I noticed that some of the laptops need troubleshooting. For effective operations, the mechanics and all personnel need to ensure that they are operating effectively. As a result, I had to check to ensure that the laptops have been plugged in to ensure a constant flow of power in the devices. This is followed by checking the installation of the battery in the laptop as well as the configuration in the system settings. The battery was removed to run the laptop with just the AC power. I used some of the secondary batteries from the company and after manually mounting it to the laptop, I checked the AC cord. The power lamp was on which shows that the laptop has some life.

Over the course of the third and fourth days, I also noticed that there were issues relating to printing systems. A command option would be sent to the printer, and the printer took much time processing the information. I had to install a printing system on all computers. I detached all printers from the computer, deleted all time lags, connected the computer using the USB cable, and then turned them on. From the start menu, I opened the settings app. I then clicked on devices and clicked add a printer or scanner option. The computer systems use windows. The computers automatically detect the printer and I clicked on the printer’s name and followed the simple installation process. I did this to all computers, and the printers became swift in responding to commands.

Server is a new term in the automobile business that I learned about this week. A server is an operating system that aids in facilitating typical server roles in automobiles (Letaief et al., 2019). It lets software applications and cars connect through an application programming interface (API) in a car.

WEEK 3: Monday, May 31st – Friday, June 4th

The first two weeks of my internship at Ram and Sons Auto were stressful and sweaty as I tried to adjust to the pace and complexities of a 9 to 5 job. I rapidly began to love my work day once I established a pattern and mastered the office language. This week I did two major jobs and got chance to learn about new tools and new terms.

 

Installation of AutoCAD software for computer-aided drawing and design. (Solid Works)

The duration for the task is quite long, which is approximately eight hours. The first step entails Checking the windows version of computers to validate their compatibility with the heavy software. Secondly, check on the random-access memory and storage that can handle the software. Install WinRAR into the computers to compress the files for proper transfer of the software since the software is large up to 30 GB. Transfer the files to the computers until the last file. Put the airplane mode on to avoid the possible virus in the computer interfering with the software. Install the software, and once it’s compatible with the computers, it’s run and ready for use by designers.

Installing simulation software into the computers

Over the week, I noticed there were issues relating to simulation software used by the organization. The simulation software includes MATLAB, Scilab, and ticker Kad. I had to install all simulation software in the computer to increase availability to the users depending on their passion and persona experience with the simulations (de Souza Silva et al., 2020). I opened all the computers to check their compatibility and generations ready to install the software. Some had low RAMS, so I had to plead with the administration to buy some RAM to boost up. I requested the organization to buy licensed simulation software from developers who are safe from pirates and cracked versions. From that, installed the software on the computers. The computer systems use windows. The computers automatically detect the software, and I clicked on the software’s name to run to justify their effectiveness (Adeyeye et al., 2018).

Terms learned

Terms learned include; WinRAR, solid works, and simulation. WinRAR is a Windows application used to compress large files so that they can be installed effectively. Solid Works is software used by designers, especially in the engineering and architectural field, to design technological models of real structures before production. Simulation is the scientific production of practical results without actual measurement of practical parameters, for example, electrical circuits of voltages and currents.

WEEK 4: Monday, June 7th – Friday, June 11th

The job will take about eight hours to complete, which is a significant amount of time. This week I was not so occupied because I finished my work in two days, that is.

The Skills or Skillsets Used/Required to Complete Each Task

The current Task is to log into the BIM 360 Account Administration Portal. When you first log in, use the Account Settings profile page in BIM 360 Account Administration to personalize your account (da Silva et al., 2020). Uploading a company logo, renaming the BIM 360 account, inviting account administrators, and defining the account’s business units are all simple tasks.

Over the week, I made the simulations more accessible to people based on their interests and interactions with personas. I had to download all the modeling software onto the computer. After this, I went to the account administration page and clicked the settings tab, then the profile tab. Following that, I went to my account’s image gallery and uploaded an image or logo (da Silva et al., 2020). I clicked the pencil icon and entered the account name, which will appear in BIM 360 and notification emails and texts. Then, from the drop-down menu, choose “Save.” Keep in mind that increasing the number of Account Administrators helps ensure that there is no single point of failure in account management.

  

A Brief Explanation of Why the Task Needed to Be Done

While BIM allows design and construction teams to work more efficiently, it also allows them to capture data generated during the methodology, which can then aid maintenance and support efforts. As a result, BIM regulations are becoming more common around the world. Considering this fact, it was necessary to create a design and construction team to capture data generated during the process (ÖZer & Yay, 2021). Through this, the company could adopt regulations that are common around the world.

Was There an Outcome? If So, What Was That Outcome?

I obtained two crucial pieces of information needed to link BIM 360 licenses to the tenant location. When a customer buys a BIM 360 license, they must also purchase these two items. Specific customers are irritated because they don’t know where to look, and vendors cannot supply them (da Silva et al., 2020). As a result, the customer must access their BIM 360 account and enter their hardware identifier in the appropriate field.

Terms learned

The terms I learned this week is hardware identifier and simulation. A hardware identifier (also known as a host identifier) is a unique alphanumeric code that identifies the computer that has been granted permission to run the software. To use the software, you must first activate it online. Depending on the circumstances, this number could be an Ethernet ID (also known as a MAC Address) or a hardware lock (dongle) (ÖZer & Yay, 2021). The Product Configuration wizard will correctly identify your MAC Address in most cases. You can also get your Device ID by selecting Registration Utility Tasks from the Integrated Design Wizard’s desktop drop-down menu and then selecting the Show OPA Hardware Signifiers option. On the other hand, in science, simulation refers to the systematic generation of practical results without actual experimental variables such as electrical system currents and voltages.

WEEK 5: Monday, June 14th – Friday, June 18th

Internship at the Ram & Sons Auto Inc

I had installed Auto CAD software for the computer on the third week and this week’s job is related to the transfer of the same Auto CAD. The job will take approximately eight hours to complete, which is a long time in this case. This week has been less hectic than usual because I finished my work in two days rather than three. The first day lasted three hours, and the second day lasted five hours.

The Skills or Skillsets Used/Required To Complete Each Task

Having installed AutoCAD on the older computer, the task is to transfer AutoCAD data to the company’s new computers over the week. If you want to transfer your AutoCAD settings between computers manually, you’ll need an external hard drive or cloud storage. You must also ensure that you have enough space on your external hard drive to store all of these files and that they are all copied to the correct location so that they are easily accessible in the future.

Over the week, I had to transfer AutoCAD data to new computers. The first step was to remove everything from my personal temporary (percent temp percent) folder. I confirmed that I had full administrative privileges, turned off Windows UAC notifications, and turned off my antivirus and malware scanning utilities. Aside from that, I debated whether the download should take place over a wired Internet connection rather than a Wi-Fi connection. I went to the Autodesk Virtual Agent and clicked on the product download links that caught my eye. I started by downloading all of the components for my product (some applications only require a single component to be downloaded). This necessitated saving each section to my computer’s hard drive. I went to my download folder and double-clicked the part _001 00X.sfx.exe files to extract it (or the single file download). The extraction began in a matter of seconds, and I was prompted to extract to Autodesk. The installation process began automatically after the extraction process was completed.

A Brief Explanation of Why the Task Needed to Be Done

Because the company recently purchased new computers, it is necessary to transfer AutoCAD to them. Furthermore, because high-quality presentation graphics are generated as a byproduct of the construction documents (CD), AutoCAD was required for installation. The CDs are one effort in the AutoCAD workflow, and the renderings are a separate effort (da Silva et al., 2020). When a rendering is required, the project budget may not be sufficient to cover the extra work.

Was There an Outcome? If So, What Was That Outcome?

The serial number assigned to me was discovered in the installation log file. I opened my logfile in Windows Notepad and searched for the string “/SN” to figure out what was going on. The serial # was discovered throughout the log file after several failed installation attempts, which was good. I had to remove, or rather “X,” the serial number before posting the image.

Terms learned

This week, I learned about antivirus software, also known as anti-malware, and I’m eager to learn more. A computer program that prevents, detects, and removes malware from a computer system is known as malware protection software (ÖZer & Yay, 2021). Initially, antivirus software was designed to detect and eliminate computer viruses.

WEEK 6: Monday, June 21st – Friday, June 24th

Internship at the Ram & Sons Auto Inc

Following the purchase of new computers by the organization the previous week, I was tasked with resetting all of the organization’s legacy computers over the week. The job will take about twelve hours to complete, which is reasonable given the circumstances. This week has been busier than usual because I had to perform the same task on all computers. As a result, I was able to finish my assignment in three days instead of two. The course is divided into three days, with the first being four hours long, the second being five hours long, and the third being three hours long.

The Skills or Skillsets Used/Required to Complete Each Task

In most cases, once you start refreshing or resetting your computer, it will finish the process automatically. If Windows requires, you will be prompted to insert recovery media, typically a DVD or a USB flash drive. If this happens, your computer will calculate the necessary equipment. I’ll decline your request because the PCs came preinstalled with Windows 8.1, and I won’t be able to access the discs or thumb drive that came with your PC. I had to make them if you have a USB thumb drive with a capacity of 16 GB. This is because a recovery drive can help you troubleshoot and repair problems with your computer, even if it refuses to boot.

I was in charge of resetting all of the organization’s older computers for over a week. You can get started by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, selecting Settings, and then changing the PC settings. To finish the process, I moved my mouse to the screen’s upper-right corner and dragged it down. I went to Settings and then Change PC settings, which I completed successfully. After selecting Update and Recovery from the drop-down menu, I clicked on Recovery. Finally, by selecting Get started, I was able to uninstall and reinstall Windows completely.

A Brief Explanation of Why the Task Needed to Be Done

The company required access to applications installed by the PC’s manufacturer and several critical programs and utilities that were previously inaccessible. In my opinion the only option was to reset the system, which removes all installed applications and files and then reinstalls Windows and any applications installed by the computer’s manufacturer, including trial programs and utilities.

Was There an Outcome? If So, What Was That Outcome?

After completing the reset procedure, I was given the option of quickly or entirely erasing all data. Keep in mind that even if you promptly erase data, some of it may be recoverable with specialized software (da Silva et al., 2020). Despite the longer time, I chose to completely erase data because it dramatically reduces the possibility of Recovery.

Terms learned

I learned about the term windows this week. It is explicitly defined as a Microsoft operating system (Zer & Yay, 2021). When you use a computer, the operating system is in charge of how the computer works. Windows comes preinstalled on the vast majority of new personal computers (PCs), contributing to its status as the most popular operating system globally.
